Under today鈥檚 discussion is the important bilateral relationship between China and the United States. One is the most populous country and the biggest developing country, and the other, the biggest developed and sole superpower in the post Cold War era. President Bush said at the beginning of his first term that China is a strategic competitor. But very quickly, the stalemate over the nuclear program on the Korea Peninsular prompt him to reexamine China鈥檚 importance in preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and trade between the two big powers is soaring as well, despite the current friction over the currency issues as well as the trade deficit. Among all the problems between the two countries, Taiwan remains the most dangerous and biggest threat to China鈥檚 security environment.

How shall we examine the current picture of China鈥檚 relations with the United States? Join us in the discussions here are professor Yan Xuetong from Tsinghua University and Mr. Allen Carlson from Cornell University of America, currently he is teaching at Beijing University.
