Three hundred and forty hostages got killed in the latest taking at a southern school in Russia's North Ossetia over the last two weeks. Two plane crashes took place almost simultaneously and there was a blast in Moscow.Russia and the whole world have been shocked as China, America, the EU and the United Nations all sent a letter of strong sympathy and vehemently condemned the terrorist acts.

But can the public rally behind Putin this time given the government's use of force and the ensuing heavy casualties? Will the Russian economy be seriously impacted? Will Putin get bogged down in a confidence crisis? Joining us in this discussion are Dr. Nicolas Swanstrom, executive producer of the Silk Road Studies Program under the Uppsala University of Sweden and Professor Mei Renyi from the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
