The World Stamp Exhibition has opened in Luoyang, an ancient capital in central China's Henan Province. Officials from the central government and the International Stamp Association were there for the ceremony.

Peonies decorated the stage, as the Stamp Exhibit is sharing honors with the Luoyang Peony festival. Opening night saw 19 elaborately compiled programs that included singing, dancing, acrobatics.

A number of big names came out, among them Jackie Chan, Nicolas Tse, Zhang Shaohan, Song Zuying, and Tan Jing. Sarah Brightman, one of the opening acts at the Beijing Olympics, was invited onto the stage to perform.

The one-week exhibition features over 3,200 framed stamp collections. On public display for the first time are stamps collected by the China National Post and Postage Stamp Museum. There's also the Penny Black, the world's first adhesive postage stamp of a public postal system, issued by Britain in 1840.
