Stamp collectors, this one's for you. The World Stamp Exhibition is now underway in Luoyang, an ancient capital in central China's Henan Province.
More than 3,200 framed stamp collections will be displayed at the event which runs from the 10th of April to the 16th. The exhibits include stamps collected by the China National Post and Postage Stamp Museum, which have never been showcased. And the Penny Black, the world's first adhesive postage stamp of a public postal system, issued by UK in 1840.

All the participating stamps are specially ranked treasures or the sole stamp in existence. Two stamps and a small-sized sheet will be issued to celebrate the event.
Eight different medals will be awarded to stamp collections in the competition category. The Large Gold Medal and the Gold Medal are the top prizes.

Wang Lilin, vice president of Executive Committee of 2009 World Stamp Exhibition said, "It is the first time all 84 members of the Federation of International Philately, the exhibition's sponsor, have applied for the annual event. And the Universal Postal Union will organize its 40 members to attend."
An opening gala was held Thursday evening to welcome all the participants and guests, as well as showcase the long history and profound culture of Luo Yang.
