Some of those who want to help are thinking of the long term. The Shenyang Conservatory of Music is one such agency. It launched a program on June 5th, to offer better education for some children whose lives were devastated by the earthquake.
The programme sets out to recruit a hundred students in the most badly stricken areas. The Shenyang Conservatory will provide free tuition for seven years, as well as a living allowance. The students' education and living expenses will be covered from the day they enter the conservatory until the day they graduate.
The Shenyang Conservatory of Music has contacted the education department in Sichuan. A recruitment team responsible for choosing the students is already at work in the quake damaged region.
The Conservatory says children orphaned by the quake will be given the highest priority. The cost of providing seven years education to 100 students will be around 20-Million Yuan. That's nearly 3-Million U.S. Dollars.
