The event had an Asian theme. The family premiere covered a block of Hollywood Boulevard. There was a breakfast buffet. And there were events named after characters from the film such as "Tigress' dance class" and "Viper's Chinese charms." Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu and Michael Clarke Duncan who voiced the characters attended the massive premiere.

Dubbing actress Angelina Jolie didn't show. She was having twins. Jackie Chan wasn't there either. He was busy giving a charity performance in Hong Kong raising money for Wenchuan earthquake relief. In a cute pink dress, Chinese born actress Lucy Liu took the spotlight, receiving cheers from Chinese tourists nearby.

Liu expressed her sadness over the Sichuan earthquake. She asks that in addition to donations people think of other ways to help the victims. Kicking and spinning down the red carpet, Jack Black made sure fans knew he had the moves. He was doing a take off on his animated alter-ego, the panda Style Karate Dojo.
