| China's new NPC plenum to open March 5, 2003 |

China has decided to convene the First Plenum of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) on March5, 2003 in Beijing. The new legislature will elect top state and government leaders.
The 31st meeting of the Ninth NPC Standing Committee passed a resolution here Saturday which sets forth suggestions for the session's agenda.
According to the resolution, the new legislature's first plenary session will hear and examine the government report, deliberate on the national economic and social development plan for 2003 and state budget for 2003.
Also, it will hear three work reports by the Ninth NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
The new legislature will elect chairman and vice chairmen of the NPC Standing Committee, elect the country's president and vice-president. It will decide on the list of the State Council's premier and vice premiers, as well as state councilors and ministers for all government departments.
The meeting will elect chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, as well as president of the Supreme People's Court and procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
