Zhu Peikang, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, has called for strengthened democratic supervision over the work of the government.
Zhu, also a member of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, made the proposal in a speech Friday at a plenary meeting of the ongoing annual session of the CPPCC Ninth National Committee.
He stressed the importance of legislation on democratic supervision and more active participation in government work and decision-making by China's non-Communist parties.
While calling on the non-Communist parties to show stronger political will in democratic supervision, the CPPCC National Committee member also urged the ruling party to "create a better environment and better conditions for non-Communist parties to fulfill their duty of supervision more actively and effectively."
