China's new Premier Wen Jiabao said in Beijing Tuesday that stability is of "critical importance" to China.
"As the premier of a nation with a population of 1.3 billion, I 'm most concerned about the country's development and stability," he said while meeting the press for the first time.
China owes its great achievements in the past 13 consecutive years to a stable domestic situation, he said.
