Dialogue is a major program on China Central Television Station (CCTV) Overseas Service. The 30-minute Newsmagazine is broadcast through CCTV-9 channel, covering China and overseas market. It is an authoritative English TV talk show produced by CCTV (formerly known as Sunday Topics). Dialogue attracts audiences from North America, Europe, and other English-speaking countries, foreigners working in or visiting China, as well as numerous English students of all ages in China.
Ms. Chen Xiaowei was the former hostess of this program. The current host, Mr. Yang Rui, is a senior journalist of CCTV. Ms. Zhao Bin, an associate professor of Peking University also hosts this program.
Unlike other talk shows focusing on common topics or entertainment news, Dialogue lays special emphasis on timely analysis of major current events in the frame of Chinese-Western cultural comparison.
Dialogue aims at providing objective, fair and comprehensive news reports. Local and foreign guests express their opinions on the right and wrong, truths and falsehood in the program. It cautiously avoids reaching a single conclusion and imposes no personal views on others.
Dialogue invites Chinese and international scholars as guest speakers to the program, as well as government officials, journalists, industry entrepreneur, scientists and artists. There have been over 160 programs broadcast up to now. Our guest speakers include former US President Carter and President Clinton, former General Secretary of UN Mr. Ghali, former Australian Prime Minister Hawke and world-known Chinese movie director Chen Kaige.
