 Shivshankar Menon, the outgoing Indian ambassador to China, will leave China to be the India ambassador to Pakistan. This top Indian diplomat witnessed the smooth hand-over of power between the two generations of Chinese leadership. And he recently is one of the key people, who have brought about the historic official visit by the Indian Premier Atal Vajpayee. These two events alone are perhaps enough to explain the significance of improving the bilateral ties between the two most population nations in the world—their population account for 1/3 of the world total.
