THU, OCT 18, 2001

US President George W. Bush is on his way to China for the APEC meeting in Shanghai. Before his departure, he said that he would use the meeting to recruit more allies in the war against terrorism.

The President spoke to California business leaders in Sacramento on a brief stopover during the long flight to China, his first trip abroad since last month's terrorist attacks. Bush said that he would talk with APEC leaders, hoping to strengthen international cooperation against terrorism.

Over three thousand people attended the address including some search-and-rescue team members who had worked in the wreckage of the World Trade Center last month. President Bush will spend five days in Shanghai joining the gathering of Asia-Pacific leaders.
