Trade Groups Agree Program to Promote Sino-US Business
THU, OCT 18, 2001

The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, or CCPIT, has agreed with the US Chamber of Commerce on a program that will help develop small and medium-sized enterprises in the two countries.

Chinese officials say the agreement will open the way for businesses to tap potential when China enters the WTO. Yu Xiaosong, president of the CCPIT, said at a signing ceremony that the economies of the two countries were highly complementary. By giving more practical services to small and medium-sized enterprises, China and the US would enjoy broader prospects for future co-operation, he said. US Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue said the world economy would benefit from China's accession to the WTO only if small and medium-sized businesses were solid enough. Both chambers said collaborating and operating the new program would depend on raising funds over the next 12 months.
