APEC CEO Summit Opens in Shanghai

The APEC CEO Summit has just opened in Shanghai towards the end of the first week of APEC meetings in the financial centre. Financial co-operation between APEC members is one of the items being discussed.
The CEO summit's theme is New Century, New Economy and Globalisation Development. Business leaders in the Asia Pacific region will hold discussions in an attempt to reach consensus on the new economy. Discussions will also focus on how economic co-operation should go ahead between APEC member economies. How to achieve economic prosperity and sustainable development in the regional economy will be another feature of the talks. Chinese President Jiang Zemin and leaders from other APEC member economies including Hong Kong, the United States and Russia will speak at the CEO summit. More than 300 CEOs from leading world businesses are attending.
