Symposium marks 50th anniversary of Tibetan liberation  
    Today marks the 50th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet. To commemorate the occasion, a symposium was held this morning (Tuesday) in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Politbureau member Luo Gang delivered a speech at the meeting. Luo Gan said 50 years ago the central government and the local government of Tibet reached an agreement on the peaceful liberation of Tibet. It was an important event in the modern history of China, as well as an epoch-making milestone in Tibetan history. He said, since then, all people in Tibet have embarked on the road of prosperity, development and unity, just like other ethnic groups in China. Also attending the symposium were NPC Vice Chairman Cao Zhi, Secretary General of the State Council Wang Zhongyu and CPPCC Vice Chairman Nagpoi Ngawang Jigme.
