China's Tibet welcomes European Union parliamentarians to visit the "Roof of the World" for a closer look at what changes have taken place there. A delegation from the Tibet Autonomous Region extended the invitation at the start of its visit to the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday. The delegation also briefed the Parliament President Pat Fox on the current situation in Tibet.
Touring the European Parliament, Raidi, the head of the delegation of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress, briefed his hosts on Tibet's history and human rights conditions. The parliamentarians said that the delegation's visit could enable the Europeans to listen directly to the voices of Tibetans.
Delegation member Labapingcuo said that real human rights came within reach only after the abolishment of the theocratic feudal serfdom in 1959. Tibetans then could claim to be their own masters.
Another delegation member, Dunkang, a Living Buddha, spoke on the religious conditions. He said that his own experiences were proof that normal religious activities in Tibet are protected by law. He said that both the religious circles and the followers are satisfied with the current situation.
The delegation arrived in Brussels on Sunday. The visit is expected to improve understanding between China's Tibet and the European Parliament.
