Israeli Prime Minister's senior advisor Dov Weisglass warned Saturday that Israel might renew operations in the Palestinian territories although it had promisedto lessen its military presence to facilitate Sunday's election.

Weisglass' warning came one day after an Israeli soldier was killed in the West Bank by militants of Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades,an offshoot of Palestinians' mainstream Fatah movement.

He issued the warning when meeting with former US President Jimmy Carter and former French Prime Minister Michel Rocard, both of whom were among some 800 international observers overseeing thePalestinian presidential election.

Israel has agreed to pull out troops from Palestinian towns andcities for 72 hours before, during and after the election.

It has also pledged to remove roadblocks and checkpoints acrossthe territories.

However, a senior Palestinian official complained Saturday thatthere were no signs indicating Israel is making good on its promise.
