According to the State Administration of Industry and Commerce, foreign direct investment (FDI) in China increased three percent in the first five months of this year.

An official in charge of the administration's registration department told reporters that China ranks first in attracting foreign investment in the world.

He said from January through May, over 15,000 overseas companies registered to invest, putting a big portion of their money into the service sector and manufacturing.

China's top five sources of FDI are: Hong Kong, the British Virgin Islands, the United States, Japan and South Korea.
