Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, has inspected the Amoy Gardens housing complex, as well as the Prince Wales Hospital. He made the inspection on Monday morning.
Wen Jiabao conveyed his regards to Hong Kong residents who suffered from the SARS epidemic, saying the central government is always behind them, ready to give them every support. He also praised the relentless efforts of the Hong Kong medical workers in the fight against SARS.
The first large-scale outbreak of SARS in late March in Hong Kong was in a single building in the Amoy Gardens housing estate. An unlucky convergence of environmental conditions allowed the contamination of the vertically-linked apartments.
The World Health Organization lifted its travel advisory on the Hong Kong SAR in mid-May. Currently there are 29 SARS patients still receiving treatment in Hong Kong hospitals.
