WHO not yet considering lifting Beijing travel advisory

The WHO representative in China says that Beijing will be taken off the WHO's list of SARS affected countries once it does not have any new cases of SARS for 20 days.

The representative said that the WHO has not yet considered lifting the travel advisory against Beijing since the capital is still reporting new SARS cases or suspected cases most days, and many patients remain in hospital.

The representative reiterated the other three of the four criteria for lifting the travel advisory: The number of cases currently treated in hospitals must be fewer than 60, the number of new patients must be fewer than five for a number of days, and there must be no local transmission or exporting of cases to other regions.
