Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived at Geneva on Saturday night for the North－South informal dialogue and as a guest of the Group of Eight Summit.
It is President Hu Jintao's first trip overseas since taking office in March. It is also the first time that China has been invited to attend the G8 summit.
At the invitation of French President Jacques Chirac, President Hu Jintao will attend the North－South dialogue first, then he will attend the annual G8 summit, both in Evian, France.
The G8 group is Russia, Germany, Italy, Canada, Britain, Japan, France and the United States.
