| Chinese president to make Europe－Asia trip |

Chinese President Hu Jintao is planning a Europe－Asia tour starting late this month. The tour will take him to Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, then on to France for an informal North－South meeting. This is the first overseas trip for the president since he took office in early March. Chinese Vice－Foreign Minister Liu Guchang has detailed the president's schedule and its significance.
 Liu Guchang said that the tour, scheduled from next Monday to June 5, is not only linked with bilateral ties and multilateral relations, but also with the relationship between neighboring countries, and between developed and developing countries.
Russia will be President Hu's first stop. Liu said Hu Jintao will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and meet with the Russian premier and parliamentary leaders.
The two sides will sign a joint statement voicing common stances on various issues.
Hu Jintao will also attend the third summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member nations in Moscow.
It will be the first time he will attend the meeting.
The president was also invited to attend the informal North－South meeting in Evian, France on June 1. During the stay, he will also hold important bilateral talks with his French counterpart.
Vice Foreign Minister Liu Guchang said, " We hope to take this opportunity to have extensive discussions and exchanges of views with different countries on issues concerning global development, so as to increase understanding, expand common understanding and promote cooperation."
During the meeting in Evian, President Hu is also expected to hold talks with US President George W. Bush, which will be the first meeting between the two leaders.
