Major Taiwan store closed for SARS decontamination

    Taiwan is reporting a record one-day rise in SARS infection and a major department store has been closed for four days for decontamination.

    Dayeh Takashimaya, a major Taipei department store was closed for four days from Saturday for decontamination, after an employee was admitted to hospital on Friday as a suspected SARS case.

    SARS has hammered consumer spending in Taiwan, slowed investment and exports and led to the resignation of the top health official after the number of confirmed SARS cases jumped from 34 to 308 in a very short time. To date, 25 people have died.
