The World Health Organization (WHO) removed Toronto from its list of SARS-affected areas Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien announced in the House of Commons.
Earlier in the day, health officials in Toronto said the decision was pending.
The city was removed from the list because the disease has not spread through the community.
On April 23, WHO issued a travel advisory against non-essential travel to Toronto, and lifted it seven days later, but kept the city on the list of SARS-affected areas.
Meanwhile, Canadian health officials declared more success against SARS as the outbreak in an area north of Toronto was declared over.
According to local reports, 24 people died of SARS and more than 300 probable and suspected cases were detected in the country.
