   CCTV.COM   2003-05-07 14:05:18
Under the revised preventive and control measures against SARS, the Thai government would issue "health passport" for travelers from countries listed as SARS-affected by the World Health Organization from next week, the Nation newspaper reported Wednesday.

Thai Public Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan was quoted as saying that the first lot of about 10,000 health record booklets had been ready and these "health passports" would be issued to arrivals from SARS-affected areas at all entry points including Bangkok International Airport.

The visitors from those areas are required to submit to a health check every three days for the first 10 days of their stay and have the results recorded in their health passport, which will also contain personal information such as their contact numbers and traveling routes.

Advice on how to comply with the country's SARS regulations as well as contact numbers of the ministry's SARS Operation Center are printed in English in the booklets.

The "health passport" would make it easier for authorities to control a possible SARS infection carried in by individuals from SARS-affected areas, Deputy Health Permanent Secretary and head of the SARS Center Thawat Suntharajarn said, adding that for travelers the special passport would become a souvenir from Thailand as well.
