Scientists: no proof SARS virus spreads through excrement

People's fears over SARS are prompting worries that SARS patients' excrement and even things they touch are highly infectious. But such worries are unnecessary. According to a recent World Health Organization report, close contact with SARS patients and infected flying particles of phlegm remain the chief spreading paths of the virus. The report also indicates that currently there is no scientific evidence to prove the SARS virus can spread through the human digestive tract. Scientists say the new variation of coronavirus, already confirmed as the SARS virus, can live for four days in the low-temperature environment of a refrigerator, but will die within half an hour if the temperature rises to 56 degrees Celsius or above. In addition, the latest research demonstrates that the SARS virus cannot grow in the body of flies or mosquitoes.
