Beijingers to dial "120" hotline if they suspect SARS

    Beijing residents have been told to dial 120 to request a special ambulance, if they see symptoms of SARS in family members, friends or in themselves.

    Beijing municipal government has opened extra "120" emergency medical service hotlines to help contain SARS.

    In the past, people worried about SARS symptoms had to report first to the Municipal Disease Control Center and then to the Municipal Health Bureau. Only when the symptoms were confirmed as SARS would the Health Bureau inform the First Aid Center to help the victim.

    Dial "120" if you see these symptoms:

    1. Fever above 38 degrees Celsius accompanied by headache, aching joints, aching pain throughout body.

    2. Dry cough with reduced phlegm, occasionally blood-tinged phlegm, accelerated respiration, shortness of breath, respiratory distress.

    3. No obvious results from antibiotic medicines.
