SARS prevention has become the top priority for many Chinese provincial governments. Provinces take measures to ensure people's health.
The provincial government in Hebei, north China, has worked out a SARS prevention draft plan and ordered the setting-up an emergency treatment network led by medical experts in the province.
At present, there are 15 designated hospitals in Hubei for SARS prevention and treatment. A provincial monitoring network including more than 200 hospitals in Hebei is now up and running.
In major cities like the provincial capital Shijiazhuang, and Xintai city, daily disinfection has become a must on public buses. Drivers and conductors have all been given the necessary medicines.
In the coastal city of Qinhuangdao, the city government has turned SARS prevention work into a public hygiene movement, to create a cleaner urban environment.
In the ancient city of Handan, medical disease prevention and control departments are giving free lectures and consultations to the public. They have also set up a special hotline to answer people's questions.
The government of Chongqing Municipality, southwest China, has taken measures to prevent the 30-million-strong metropolis from importing SARS cases. Strict sterilization and checking procedures are now in force at the city's major harbors, railway stations and airports. Special medical check points, isolation rooms and clinical observation posts have been set up in these places.
On every train heading for Chongqing, SARS patients or people with SARS-like symptoms have to be registered and promptly sent to designated hospitals after their trains arrive. In addition, the interiors of trains must be thoroughly disinfected.
