China's State Development and Reform Commission has tagged another 900 million yuan or more than 100 million US dollars for nation-wide SARS prevention work.
This brings this year's national fund for disease prevention and control to 2.9 billion yuan, or some 350 million US dollars. The extra funding will be used to optimize services at China's disease control departments at provincial, city and county levels. Richer provinces in east China are required to subsidize the government contribution by investing more in the work in their areas.
In addition to the extra SARS prevention funding, China's State Disease Prevention and Control Center will also receive special funding of 600 million yuan, or some 75 million US dollars, for its expansion project.
