Crack SARS team on duty in Beijing

    In Beijing, a special team of medical personnel has been formed to investigate the cause of the virus. It's all part of attempts to stop SARS from spreading any further.

    The 2,500-member SARS team in Beijing has people on duty 24 hours a day. When a SARS case is reported, the team objective is to reach the patient within 30 minutes. The Beijing team comprises highly skilled people. They also respond to notifications about suspected SARS cases, interviewing and testing the individuals at risk.

    According to Teng Renming, staff of Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the team need to get a sample of phlegm from the patient's throat.

    Team members brush health risks aside. They are professionally committed to control the spread of the disease in the Beijing area.

    "...It is our job, a very honorable job. I am very proud of it," said Lu Hongyan, a staff of Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

    Meanwhile the China Commercial Association says that they will be putting practical measures in place in service industries to help prevent the further spread of SARS.
