Three children are suspected to have been Australia's first cases of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The Australian Associated Press reported Thursday the three children, Thomas, 6, Isabelle, 4, and the 18-month-old Jack, came back earlier this month from Shepparton in Canada along with their parents and admitted to a hospital in Melbourne.
Australian Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer Richard Smallwood was quoted as saying that the children had been listed as probable SARS victims with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Professor Smallwood said, with no reliable test for SARS in place, it could only be diagnosed after other possible illnesses were ruled out.
Last month a British tourist in the country was announced to be the victim of SARS but later proved to be a flu patient.
