Politburo members listen in on CPPCC session |

While the First Session of the Tenth National Committee of China's top advisory body being under way, CPC General Secretary Hu Jintao, and other politburo members have dropped in for talks with CPPCC representatives and to listen to a range of opinions and proposals.
Hu Jintao joined a discussion with a group of ethnic minority CPPCC members, together with Jia Qinglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Politiburo of CPC Central Committee.
Hu Jintao said the Chinese government has made persistent efforts in pushing the social and economic development of the ethnic minority regions since the opening-up and reform drive began in the nineteen seventies.
He stressed that the construction of a well-off society involves the common prosperity of all people living in China, regardless of their ethnic origin. In achieving that goal, Hu Jintao said the central government will always adhere to its policy of supporting the development of ethnic minority regions. He added, the government will continue to monitor and improve ethnic minority self-governance systems and maintain the nation's reunification and national unity.
Some other CPC Standing Committee members of the Politiburo also joined discussions with CPPCC members.
Wu Bangguo exchanged ideas with members from the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang and the Taiwan Democratic Self-government League. He reiterated the "One-China Principle" and said it provided the basis on which cross-Strait talks and negotiations can resume.
Wen Jiabao held discussions with CPPCC members from the business community. He stressed the importance of science and democracy in the construction of a modern China.
At the meeting with members from the Trade Union, the Communist Youth League, and the All-China Women's Federation, Zeng Qinghong put emphasis on their role in democratic supervision.
Huang Ju met with members from the science community and called for the redoubling of efforts in the development of science and technology.
