The US and Japan have signed a mutual legal assistance treaty. The treaty will make it easier for investigators and prosecutors in both countries to take testimony, obtain evidence, locate fugitives or witnesses and get government agency records. It is designed to enhance cooperation in criminal investigations and in combating terrorism.
