The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has allocated 1 billion Hong Kong dollars to boost its economy, which has been hard hit by the SARS epidemic.
Forty percent of the money will go to promote the tourist industry and stimulate local consumer spending. The World Health Organization has already lifted travel restrictions on Hong Kong, where the SARS epidemic has been effectively contained.
And local tourist agencies are going all out to re-foster tourists' confidence in the region. Hong Kong residents are also being urged to encourage overseas relatives and friends to come and visit.
