About 150 Macao travelers took part in a one-day tour of Zhaoqing city, a tourist attraction in South China's Guangdong Province on Wednesday. They were the first large-scale tourist group from outside China's mainland to visit the area since the World Health Organization removed its travel advisory on the province.

The tourists, mostly middle-aged or elderly people, are making use of their Dragon Boat Festival leave to visit Zhaoqing. The buses they were traveling in had been thoroughly disinfected.

Officials in Gongbei checked the temperatures of the tourists before they were allowed into the province. Travelers were also required to fill out health forms. Precautionary information, such as addresses were also recorded.

The visitors had a happy day sightseeing in the city, and took the opportunity to savor the traditional Zhaoqing “zongzi”.

"I have visited nearly every city of Guangdong province. The air here is good, and it's important for us to have some outdoor activities," said a tourist from Macao.

After the removal of the travel advisory, healthy tours that focus on outdoor activities have been greatly favored by people from the nearby Hong Kong and Macao special administrations visiting Guangdong Province. It's expected that the number of tourists from the SARs will continue to rise again this month.

In Shanghai, urban and rural tours have resumed, as new SARS cases subside across the mainland. More and more people are eating out and going shopping. After months of slack business, restaurants and shopping centers are hoping to recoup some of their losses in a post-SARS boom.
