The informal North-South dialogue meeting between leaders of the Group of Eight leading industrialized countries, and the heads of state from 11 emerging developing countries ended on Sunday in France. In an address to the informal meeting, Chinese President Hu Jintao made a package of proposals for world development and cooperation. The proposals involve four aspects.
On the adoption of resolute steps to boost global economic growth, President Hu said further global economic growth requires the concerted cooperation of the international community. He said all countries should strive to tap their economic development potential and stimulate the inherent vitality of economic growth.
On the pursuance of peaceful co-existence and the maintenance of diversity in the world, Hu said that steps should be taken to make full use of the opportunities created by the trend of economic globalization to promote the exchange and mutual study of experience among different cultures and different development models in the world.
On the strengthening of multilateral cooperation to promote the establishment of a new world economic order, Hu said the establishment of a fair and rational new world economic order meets the requirement of economic globalization and conforms to the common interests of all countries.
And finally, on the issue of increasing support for enriching North-South cooperation, Hu said developing countries themselves should be mainly responsible for their own economic development.
