The southern Chinese province of Guangdong is hoping to boost its tourism sector by restarting travel both within the province and to the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

Guangdong Tourism Bureau Chief Zheng Tongyang says the bureau's proposals include offering new routes featuring fresh air and monthly promotions for travelers.

Zheng estimates the province can expect a marginal increase in visitors at the beginning of June. But the market will not return to normal until the National Day Holiday in October.

Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have announced plans to hold a joint conference on tourism to strengthen the ties between the three regions and attract more visitors.
