On the third day of his trip to Russia, Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered a speech at the prestigious Moscow State Institute of International Studies. The Chinese President pledged even greater efforts towards long-term good-neighbor relations and cooperation benefiting both China and Russia.
Hu Jintao briefed the audience at Russia's cradle of diplomats on China's independent foreign policy of peace, policies of reform and opening up to the outside world and achievements.
Other topics included the 16 National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the development plan for the first 20 years of the 21st century, stressing that economic development remains the national focus.
Hu Jintao spoke highly of the development of the relations between China and Russia in the last decade, and called for even stronger ties.
"Sino-Russian ties are of special importance in China's foreign relations. The new Chinese leadership is willing to cooperate with the Russian side in fully implementing the Russia-China Good Neighbor Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation and promoting the all-round strategic partnership of cooperation in political, economic, scientific, cultural and other fields," said Hu Jintao,the Chinese President.
The Chinese President proposed measures to achieve these goals. These include strengthening mutual support and deepening mutual trust, broadening cooperation of mutual benefit and achieving a win-win situation, increasing consultations and coordination and promoting peaceful development.
Hu Jintao also introduced the future diplomats to China's stance on international affairs.
"The lasting peace and common prosperity of the world require full cooperation and unremitting efforts from the international community. The Chinese people will join hands with the Russian people and peoples from all the other countries in building a peaceful, stable and harmonious world," said Hu Jintao.
Established in 1944, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations is Russia's most prestigious educational establishment for international studies. Visiting foreign heads of state are usually invited to speak there.
