Since the World Health Organization removed Guangdong from its list of SARS-affected areas, life has returned to normal for overseas nationals working and living in the city of Dongguan.
James Betty is a chief executive of a US company and has been doing business in China for more than five years. He says he's been looking forward to the region being taken off the affected list for some time.
Some expatriates living in China for a long time say the WHO's decision signals approval of Guangdong's achievements in fighting SARS. It also gives the international residents more confidence to stay in the city.
The confidence extends to people on short stays. Visitors from Canada and Britain say they will spend a couple of weeks looking around the city and have even suggested their friends at home come and join them.
