Having analyzed the statistics of SARS cases in schools on the Chinese mainland, researchers have concluded that there is no massive outbreak of SARS in schools, so far.

Altogether 276 students have been infected by SARS over the period from March 31 to May 21, comprising 10.2 percent of the total number of people infected on the mainland over that period. 54 percent were college students or graduates, 32 percent were high school students, and the remaining 14 percent were primary school students.

The infected students were a very tiny minority within the total student population. College students were the most susceptible but the researchers point out that more social and sports activities, and dormitory life would be contributing factors to a relatively high incidence of the disease among them.

The reexamination and enrollment of graduates for 2003 will resume from May 25. The Education Ministry has asked all colleges concerned to take measures to ensure the applicants' health and safety.
