Monitoring for SARS: Fever scanners installed in Beijing
   CCTV.COM   2003-05-21 09:05:21
The Beijing municipal government is pushing ahead with its efforts aimed at stopping the spread of the SARS virus, even as the number of new cases diminishes.

Tuesday, 400 thermal imaging scanners were installed in the city's major shopping malls and restaurants. The infrared fever sensing system will be used to screen people for fever, one of the first symptoms of SARS.

The installation of the scanners comes as the flow of customers in shopping malls and restaurants rises in the Chinese capital. Government figures show that the volume of business per day has increased by 20 percent over last week.
