Taiwan has reported three more SARS deaths and 36 new cases. Sunday's figures are the island's biggest one-day jump in infections. The island has been reporting increasing numbers of infections despite local governmental measures. So far, 40 people have died there out of a total of 344 infections.

Among the new cases is a 26-year-old doctor who traveled to Japan for a holiday after coming into contact with other medics who had been working with SARS patients.

He didn't show any symptoms before his departure, but was later diagnosed with the disease after returning home, complaining of flu-like symptoms.

The Taiwan authorities have notified Japan, who is looking for the other passengers on the doctor's flight.
