The government has given top priority to the prevention and control of SARS in rural China. In rural areas around Beijing, a set of comprehensive control and prevention measures has been implemented.
Walking into the Lan'ge Village located in Changping District on the outskirt of Beijing, you will see some villagers walking leisurely along the streets and others doing exercises. A villager playing sports says he understands the government has gone to great efforts to prevent and control SARS in this area and he feels safe here.
This village has more than 20 locally-owned businesses, all of which are now in normal operation. In one factory, workers are busy making sculptures ordered by a Korean company. The manager said that in the recent months the factory has received continuous orders.
In addition to a set of comprehensive measures taken to prevent SARS, some enterprises have purchased specific SARS insurance for their employees. The village has 1,800 residents and so far no one has caught SARS.
