The Epidemic Analysis Group from China's Ministry of Health notes the SARS infection rate among medical workers has shown a trend of gradual decline. However, they warn personal protection remains vital.
Experts say that from May 1 to May 15, among confirmed SARS cases in the Chinese mainland, the infection rate of medical workers shows a trend of decline. This is mostly due to better understanding of how the disease spreads and improved protection measures.
The death rate among medical workers is also very low, only 1.4 percent. This is 10 times lower than that among retirees. Earlier, the analysis group said the retirees' higher infection rate is probably due to age, infirmity, and susceptibility to cross infection when hospitalized. Advanced age is connected with lower resistance, or other diseases such as heart problems and high blood pressure.
