Taiwan complex quarantined after suspected SARS death
   CCTV.COM   2003-05-11 09:05:21
About 470 people were quarantined on Friday in a residential complex in Taipei's Wan Hwa District after a 74-year-old resident suspected of having SARS died and two of his neighbors developed SARS-like symptoms.

Health workers were still disinfecting the area on Saturday while they awaited confirmation as to whether the resident had indeed died of SARS. Police have also cordoned off the streets surrounding the complex.

If confirmed, the infections deal another setback to Taiwan's attempts to control the spread of SARS, which has killed at least 14 people on the island.

The Department of Health said on Friday that the number of probable SARS cases had jumped by 18 to 149, the highest rise since April 22. The number of suspected cases remained the same at 229.
