China's universities have been paying close attention to SARS prevention regarding their foreign students, teachers and researchers. Much effort has gone into keeping them safe in their study, work and life in Tianjin.

A visiting American professor came to Tianjin Normal University with his wife in February this year. After the outbreak of SARS, both his family and his university in the US expected him to go home. But he insisted on staying to continue his life in Tianjin.

He said, "I feel very safe in Tianjin. I understand from watching TV and from the university that the city of Tianjin and the university have taken strict measures to fight against SARS. It is not necessary to go back to the US."

To ensure effective protection against SARS, universities in Tianjin have designated staff to disinfect the international student dormitories two to three times each day. These students are also required to take their temperature every day. And their classes continue as usual.

Some universities have extended the opening hours of campus mini-markets to save students the trouble of going outside. Tianjin Normal University has even arranged for nutritious student meals to be delivered to the foreign students.
