Vice－Premier and Health Minister Wu Yi has met with the visiting WHO Director General nominee Dr. Jong Wook Lee in Beijing.
On Friday, Wu Yi congratulated Lee on his nomination to the post. She briefed him on China's SARS prevention efforts and spoke highly of the WHO's role in promoting the health of humanity.
Wu Yi stressed that the Chinese government appreciates the WHO for upholding the one－China principle and the country will continue to support the organization's work.
Jong Wook Lee highly commended the measures China has adopted to prevent and control SARS and expressed his satisfaction with the WHO's cooperation with China. He promised to dedicate himself to promoting this cooperation when he assumes office.
