Scientists devise SARS test for food
   CCTV.COM   2003-05-09 09:05:30
A Chinese research group has come up with a way to test for SARS in food as well as animal and plant products. The test is the work of the China Import and Export Commodity Inspection Research Institute.

State inspection and quarantine authorities sponsored the research. Its backers say the method is highly sensitive, quick and easy to apply and produces accurate results.

The test will be widely used at ports to help officers carry out domestic inspections. Since April, a number of countries have slapped bans on some Chinese exports.

But the World Health Organization says there's no evidence that these products may become a source of infection. China is yet to register a case of the killer virus being found in food.
