Cai Fuchao, the director of the Publicity Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China announced on Tuesday four key focus areas in Beijing's SARS prevention and control campaign. He also says preventing and treating the disease among Beijing's overseas community is high on the municipal government's agenda.

Cai Fuchao says Beijing plans to set up a protection system for healthy people. He also says clinics set aside for fever patients will be standardized to avoid possible cross-infection. In addition, the city will monitor people who have had close contact with SARS patients as well as improve protection of migrant workers in Beijing.

Cai has praised Beijing's overseas community for their support for the city's battle against the highly infectious disease. He says a number of overseas-funded firms have continued producing SARS-related materials.

According to Cai, the non-mainland SARS patients in Beijing, who have already been discharged from hospital upon recovery, include one each from Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Canada, Australia and Kyrgyzstan.

Vice mayor Liu Zhihua is also seeking to reassure the public that the newly built Xiaotangshan Hospital dedicated to SARS patients is equipped with advanced technology and excellent medical staff. All human waste and isolation suits are incinerated within the hospital. A separate water treatment plant has also been built on the site as part of the quarantine measures.
