The Ministry of Health reports that in the 24－hour－period ending 10 am Tuesday, 138 new SARS cases have been confirmed on the Chinese mainland. Seventy－seven of these come from suspected cases. There have been 8 new deaths.
The cumulative number of SARS cases on the mainland has risen to just over 4,400. The Ministry says that, to date, a total of 1,460 SARS patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital, but 214 people have died. In Beijing, 70 new cases were confirmed, 37 of them from already suspected cases. There were 4 deaths reported in the capital. Outside Beijing, the top two provinces reporting newly confirmed cases are Inner Mongolia with 21 and Guangdong with 12.
